SOLVING THE PROBLEMS OF LITTER TRAY USE
It is common that people tend to place the litter tray in an out-of-the-way place to minimize odor and prevent cat litter from being spread around the house. However, if the litter tray ends up in a chaotic or unfrequented location for the cat, the cat may not use it.
The first step in addressing litter tray use problems is to rule out medical problems. A veterinarian should examine your cat and, if there are no health problems, follow these tips:
- Provide one litter tray for each cat in the household, plus one extra.
- Keep the litter tray accessible and away from high-movement areas.
- Be sure to keep food and water dishes separate from the litter tray.
- Place at least one litter tray on each level of your home. This way the cat has options in case access to its primary tray is blocked.
- Pick up solid waste at least once a day.
- Locate the litter tray in areas where the cat commonly resorts to relieve itself.
- Keep the litter tray in a location that gives your cat some privacy but is also convenient. If the tray is too difficult to reach, especially for a kitten or older cat, they may not use it.
- Avoid placing the litter tray next to noisy or heat-emitting appliances, such as the oven or washing machine. The noises can make the cat nervous, while the heat from the dryer or oven can intensify the odor of the litter tray, which may cause them to move away from it.
- It is recommended that the size of the litter tray be 1.5 times the length of the cat.
HOW TO TURN MY CAT INTO A LAQU ECO-PET®:
- Start by placing 2-4 cm of Laqu Eco-Litter® Special in a clean litter tray.
- Place the required amount of the litter you currently use to cover Laqu Eco-Litter® Special.
- Each time you clean the litter tray and replace the removed litter, reduce the amount of litter currently in use, and increase the volume of Laqu Eco-Litter® Special until a complete change is made.
- It usually takes one or two changes for cats to become comfortable with a new litter.
Note: Wash your hands thoroughly after handling used cat litter. Cat feces can carry parasites that can cause toxoplasmosis. Pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems should avoid contact with the litter once it has been used by the cat.
