Do you know the Responsible Pet Ownership Law in Chile?

The Law of Responsible Pet and Companion Animal Ownership, also known as “Ley Cholito”, establishes rights
and duties in order to care for and protect our pets.

You must apply Care, Food, Home & Affection.

What is important for you to know about this Law?

  • The first care you must take is to name your pet, in order to register it in the Unique Registry of Pets and implant a microchip, so that we always know who they are and where they are.
  • As you are liable for the damages your pets cause, it is important to always use a leash when you take your pet for a walk and take the necessary measures to ensure that it will not leave home without its owner.
  • Take your pet to the veterinarian periodically for all health check-ups and vaccinations, especially when you notice your pet is in a different mood.
  • You should be responsible for feeding, protection and health care according to your pet’s own needs in consideration of its age, activity and other characteristics. If you have any concerns, always ask your veterinarian.
  • The feelings of our pets play an important role in the affection we have for them, they love us unconditionally as we love them, they play an important role in our lives; that is why we must take care of their health and have all the care to ensure their best welfare.
  • You must take into consideration what environment or adequate spaces according to their size, type or characteristics you can give them.
  • If you want to know more about this law, go to Chile Atiende or Biblioteca del Congreso Nacional de Chile.
